Moving Dragon Head…Again

(Do Erin and Ann look happy about moving the dragon head? Um, no.)

So it was dragon head movin’ time again, since Erin’s moving to Amsterdam with grandson Riley. Some of you may remember the original dragon head posts (part 1 and part 2), in which we bought it in St. Augustine and managed somehow, despite being shoved up in our car’s front seats, to drive it back three hours to our house. The dragon head was rescued from a temporary “Destination China” exhibit somewhere in Orlando–at least that’s what the St. Augustine antiques dealer told us.

Now it was time to find a way to get it from Erin’s house to ours…

(Erin suggesting we wait for the bus, since we can’t figure out how to get it in the car…)

(The US Postal Service was unhelpful…)

(Finally, the guy next door came out and agreed to take it in his truck, which already seemed prepped for transporting such a thing…)

(Erin’s not sure this plan is going to work…)

(We stop to buy some essentials…)

(…including Riley’s art, framed…er, will fit in fine with Ann’s mom’s impressionistic paintings…)

(But, finally, we get it home and it takes its rightful place alongside Sir Tessa-gifted giant penguin and giant spider…)

  1. One day, somebody will come out with a book: the VanderMeer menagerie.

Charles, that or Jeff and Ann will retire to the southernmost part of Georgia and open up a local “mystery” place, to go along with Cordele’s claim to being the Watermelon Capital of the World and Tifton’s bragging about having high-speed internet. I think it’d be a most fitting way for Jeff to retire and to continue doing what he does second- or third-best ;)

I think I saw that dragon head in an episode of Ren & Stimpy!

I bought an iron umbrella stand from a boutique in St. Augustine. Why? Because it looked like a Glabrezu — and if you know what I’m talking about, you know I had to have it. I paid too much for it (wayyyyy too much), then there was the pleasure of lugging the fifty-pound-mother#$%&*r about a quarter of a mile to my car. Six or so years later and an umbrella’s still never been near it. Shit, I don’t think I’ve _ever_ owned an umbrella. But I got that stand thing covered . . .

Drake: With the dog head and the pincers and everything? Any pictures you can share?

  7. Yeah, I can come up with some pictures. Funny, I thought Matt Stagg’s would be the guy wanting pictures. Don’t know if you know what I’m talking about, but it resembles D’Terlizzi’s art from the old Planescape manuals more so than anything else. I’ll post pics of both and let you decide. Give me a day or so to dig out the old manuals and take some photos.

I loved D’Ter’s Planescape art. His rendition of the Githyanki and are my preferred…um…renditions. He makes them look like a PEOPLE and not like scabbed up waifs. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen his Glabrezu, though.

Hey I know this is off topic but I was wondering if you
knew of any widgets I could add to my blog that automatically tweet my newest twitter updates.
I’ve been looking for a plug-in like this for quite some time and was hoping maybe you would have some experience with something like this. Please let me know if you run into anything. I truly enjoy reading your blog and I look forward to your new updates.
