Hello Mr VanderMeer, as the sneaky trackback has already indicated I have stealthily linked to your blog as you have dared to write of the secret inner workings of the Clarion experience. I shall collect them all (in a slow, bumbling kind of way)… and then… well I’m sure world domination is in there somewhere.

Thanks for sharing your experiences, it’s awesome to read about other Clarions, and nice to read about Clarion back home too. I hope Clarion South 2011 gets all the support it needs.

Thanks for all your help and advice Jeff. I was a bit shell shocked and just going on nervous energy by week six so I think you did a great job in pulling everything togother for us and giving us some very valuable post-Clarion advice which I am only really appreciating now.
I was grateful for the insights you gave into how to keep control of your writing by testing your stories, even when stressed and busy and how to keep yourself mentally at the top of your game – the knowledge you shared with us from Booklife was so valuable that I can’t wait until it is finished. Any would-be-writers out there, this is a ‘must have’. I still smile when I recall that your first piece of advice in writing a good sex scene was to get the choreography right. LOL.

I couldn’t beleive that we actually went through with the sock puppets. The idea was conceived one drunken evening and then somehow we were at the supermarket buying socks and buttons and I’m there thinking “I’ll be the only one to go through with this, and I’ll be sitting there, feeling like a dummy with a sock on my hand, I just KNOW it.” And then EVERYBODY made one and we all wore them and yes, the look on your face was priceless.

Hey, Liz! Great to hear from you. Yeah, I don’t understand the nervous part. I mean, I guess I do, but I’m trying to figure out what you thought I was going to do–confiscate them? LOL.

One of the funniest things later was Angie telling me about what was going on in her mind when she raised the sock puppet. LOL.

Thanks for letting us see it through your eyes Jeff – I was pointed this way by Lisa. A lot of the stuff you formally taught us is now getting discussed through blogs and the yahoo group – it’s stuck, I think, as we try to work out individually what to do next.
By the way,you have no idea how nervous we got about the sock puppets when we got into the crit room! Angie must have had nerves of steel… :)
