An Experiment…with Squirrel (hopefully)

Let’s see if this works. If it does I will be able to simul-podcast all short blog posts using a talking squirrel.

So click here and see if you get a squirrel podcast of my sleep emails from this post. Let me know.

  1. Ed Webb says:

Yes. Thanks. Now, how will I sleep? (Badly – is part of the answer)

  2. GlenH says:

That’s… wonderful, if slightly incohearent (and not just because of the content). You’ve probably already noted this but it when confronted by the ? symbol it inserts the words “question mark” instead of changing its inflection.

The delivary of the Caitlin Kiernan one is particularly hilarious

  3. GlenH says:

It also seems to be inserting question marks in random spots, unless your fingers are twitchy or your keyboard is broken.

  4. Jeff VanderMeer says:

yeah–did it on the fly. will try it with a new post soon, although not serious about using it for everything. most people polled find it creepy. I thought it was pretty funny.

  5. Sir Tessa says:

Heh! That was hilarious! It seemed to pick up the pace and flowed smoothly at one point, it almost sounded like someone with a robot filter instead of composite.

  6. Larry says:

OMFG! I know just the young woman to whom this talking squirrel will be like manna from heaven (she’s the inspiration behind my occasional linking to squirrel-related weirdness)! I’m so sending this to her, as this is just so cool!

And yes, you inspired a very rare OMFG from me.

  7. Grant Stone says:

I do believe that is the greatest audio in the history of ears. Is this a new storytelling medium – Squirrel-narrated fiction? Twitter stories are so last week…

  8. Jeff VanderMeer says:

Yeah, really. I think I’ll run the first couple paras of my upcoming Tor.com story as a squirrelcast for people to compare with Tor posting my own podcast. People will prefer the squirrel.

  9. Larry says:

    Who wouldn’t prefer the squirrel?

  10. Grant Stone says:

Drat! You have to provide credit card details to get access to the talking cards. Anyone know a place that does them for free?

  11. Jeff VanderMeer says:

I do. With a webcam and a squirrel head.

  12. Grant Stone says:

I’ve only got badger heads, alas.
