Football? Gators? Win? Maybe?

Alas, the peaceful union described pictorially above isn’t what Ann and I share. We have what’s known in Tallahassee as a “mixed marriage”–specifically, I am a Gator (University of Florida) and Ann is a Seminole (Florida State University). Every day, up here in Tallywacky, I’m hyper-aware of the fact I’m in enemy territory.
What does that mean for tonight? I’ll be watching the football game while Ann reads. But, then, that’s another way in which it’s a mixed marriage: I am a football fanatic and Ann…is not.
Luckily, we’re both movie nuts, so that if the score gets out of hand, we will watch either Priceless or Flawless.
Still, I believe things will go our way against those land-bound Sooners. I had a dream last night that Tebow threw an interception, but then grew to the size of Godzilla, wrenched the ball away from the safety, and scored a touchdown. (This is not too far from Tebow Reality, if you watched the Alabama game.)
Are you a football fan? Hint: If you didn’t understand a word in this post, you aren’t.

I understand perfectly well. (And we also have a mixed marriage.) I’ll always pull for any SEC team (except Alabama) in a bowl game, so GO GATORS!

If I had my way both teams would lose and the Utes would be declared the national champs. Unfortunately, even with a tie, I don’t think that’s going to happen. Stupid college football “championship” game.

Although I’ve been a Vols fan all my life, I’ve never had anything but a healthy respect for the Gators. Helps that I lived in the state for two years earlier this decade and that one of my two best friends is in UF’s Ph.D. program for Anthropology right now.
Now I just have to muster the energy to stay awake to watch the game. Damn 6:30 AM meetings, they are the devil.

Mike: I thought the Utes played an outstanding game, and should’ve had a chance to play for the national champion. That first quarter was the best first quarter I’ve seen any team play all year.

Someday we’ll have a real national championship for college football. I hate that part of it but for some reason college football is still one of the only sports I can get into (as a spectator). If I had to put my money on a team tonight i’d put it on Florida and Urban Meyer.

Yeah, I’d much prefer a playoff between at least the top 10 teams.
I’m very nervous. I’m seeing flashbacks of Nebraska versus the Gators back in the 1990s…

Gawd, both teams seem tight. Oy.

Hey, there are worse things than being a Gator. Or even a Seminole.
You could be a Buffalo, for instance. The horror.
We Husker fans remember that Fiesta Bowl game against Florida very, very well, BTW. :-)
Even so, congrats!

Hey–thanks, Matthew!! Yeah, you guys totally destroyed us. It was like a knife going through water.

I too am in a football mixed marriage, but our entire family was Gator Nation last night. Congrats to the Gators!

Hey–back at you, Jeff! I have to say I was nervous as heck the whole game, though.
