Catch me on this television show discussing one of my favourite authors and how I think Hollywood has screwed up his work every time they’ve touched it.
And hey, I’m not used to WordPress… can someone tell me how to vary text size and embed YouTube?

WordPress will take any HTML commands, but I can’t predict how they will be interpreted because it all depends on the style sheet. If I were you I’d experiment and use the Preview option in the Write Post screen to see what you get.
Embedding YouTube is easy. Just copy and paste the embed code that YouTube supplies.

minister. sorry I am not on a computer today to help but basically you paste the code in the html tab not the default draft tab. commenting from my phone. and btw–you are seriously kicking ass.

Oh, right, I see the problem. The Write Post page has two options – a sort-of-WYSIWYG and HTML. I always use the HTML because it gives you more control and anyway the other one messes up occasionally.

Sorry, only saw your post today. WordPress is a bit finicky with YouTube code, but it’s just as the folks above said: paste it directly into the HTML tab.

From what I can figure out, YouTube has two different ways to share videos. They have the regular URL link, but they also have some html labeled “Embed” which is the one to use. Am I right?

I just tried embedding the video on my wordpress blog and it didn’t work, either. Maybe something is going down! The government’s closing in!

Good coverage on PDK. While some may dismiss Blade Runner as a bastardization of his work, it’s still one my favourite movies. And it led me early on the the novel, because I was too young to see the film when it came out. I picked up the novel instead, and have been deeply warped ever since.
On PDK, did anyone read Frolix 8? I gotta say, I love most of his canon, but could not care less about that one.

Faust: Done. WordPress chewed up your code, which is why it wasn’t showing. I think the problem is that the code YouTube gives you is not valid XHTML, and WordPress automatically tries to fix it with disastrous results. I’m looking for a plugin to make your life easier because embedding video in WP is always a pain in the butt.
By the way, there are a few extra formatting options for titles, colour, etc. if you click the last button on the toolbar. Body text is fixed, though, major formatting changes should be site-wide to keep the design as consistent as possible.

I agree that Blade Runner is an enjoyable film… but as a novelist, seeing how much these guys repeatedly screwed PKD makes me angry enough that it’s *tough* for me to enjoy the film. And the biggest part of the screw job is taking PKD’s ideas and actually inverted them. The book is an attack upon psychopaths in government, in media, in policing and in our relationships. The movie turns them into a Kurt Vonnegut-style beautiful, perfect, brilliant persecuted group who would redeem us if only we could be like them, or at least stop repressing them.
