Page 123, Fifth Sentence

Got tagged by SF Signal. This is the fifth sentence on page 123 of the nearest book. Wanna guess what it’s from? (Luis, if you cheat again…)
I thought that this was our destination but we skirted the crowd and went down some stairs into a crypt.

I JUST read this….what is it?
June 15, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Matt, at least you get those things! I’m always snubbed! :P

Actually, Matt was wrong. It’s not from a book being published this year.

Thanks for the tag, Jeff.

Hmm.. tough one. Is it from the Frommers New Jersey 2009 travel guide? j/k

Thank YOU, Clare, for doing it.
Eddie–ha ha!!! LOL. Hint: you’ve seen the book on this blog.

I don’t know, but it is a sentence with plenty of intrigue (I want more). What a great sentence to come by using a peculiar and capricious formula.
Speaking of wanting more; Jeff, remember when you posted that excellent excerpt about the vagrant serial-killer brothers by an unnamed author? Does this unknown author have a blog or website?
Happy Fathers day as well!

That would be Jesse Bullington. If he doesn’t see this comment thread by tomorrow, I’ll look up his blog.
And thanks, re father’s day. Erin came over and put together a bookcase for us. I’m shyte at doing that.

Jeff: As regards the quote, I too keep a copy of “The DaVinci Code” within arms reach at all times. It serves as a sort of homeopathic ward against bad writing. Except unlike homeopathy, it actually works. I hope.
R.: Glad to hear you liked the excerpt! My woefully neglected blog can be found by clicking on my blue first name hovering over this text. A website proper is gestating in a psychic sac midway between the internet and my brain at present but should arrive eventually. Details of such an occurrence will doubtless appear on my blog, as well as most major media outlets.

Jesse–Ha!
Actually, it’s from Lawrence Durrell’s Alexandria Quartet.

I finally just did it. And you caught me in a time of research between books, so we’ve got some weirdo non fic excerpts going on.

Cool

Thanks for the response Jesse, I have added you as a friend on LJ.
Also, great comment regarding the “The Da Vinci Code,” but you made me feel dirty when I thought that the line Jeff posted (that I enjoyed) was from “The Da Vinci Code.” A book that I never cared to read beyond the first five pages in a used book store.

R.: My pleasure. As for the TDVC gag, well, making people feel dirty is kinda my bag. Sorry bout that.
