EURO 2008: Portugal vs Czech Republic, Switzerland vs Turkey

Well, here are some intriguing match-ups. In the first, having respect for both my Czech editor Martin Sust and Portuguese translator/editor Luis Rodrigues it is difficult to know who to root for. Of course, since Luis is on instant messenger, there is a certain amount of glee to be gained by telling him the Czech Republic has scored, since he often seems to be on a five-second time delay…

In the other match, I’m just excited to see Switzerland versus…Turkey! As in, wow, what contrasting cultures.

Dude, Swiss-Turkey (sounds like something off the menu at Burgr Kng) is shaping up to be potentially an interesting encounter. This is Turkey’s last chance to stay in the competition, and Switzerland’s too - and they have the whole host nation thing behind them too.

The other game, I’ll be really surprised if the Portuguese don’t win it by a clear couple.

    DECO SCORES!

  3. Luís Rodrigues says:

Okay, 1-1 now. At least it’s going to be interesting, unlike Saturday’s match.

  4. Kenneth says:

A bit dissapointed right now. 2-1 to Portugal and it is a very entertaining game.

Swizz Turkey is a game that has been quite overrated this time. Everybody who are expecting a tight and hot game is going to be dissapointed. It´s going to be a boring game. A bit like watching Greece playing. Moving to ball around and waiting for the other team to make mistakes.

  5. Luís Rodrigues says:

    3-1! GO PORTUGAL!

I love both Turkey and Switzerland, but Switzerland being where I live, I can’t help but root for them. If they can pull it off there should be some gunfire in the village tonight.

Euro 2008 has taken over the StarShipSofa house and since England failed miserably and didn’t even qualify to get to Euro, we are now left with who to go with! The household is split. Son - Germany, Wife - Spain, Daughter - France, Dad (me) Portugal.

A am quite happy to have been wrong about the Turkey and Switzerland game. It was very entertaining game that the rain spoiled.

I am going for Germany or Sweden this time.

  9. Brendan says:

    ABI - Anyone But Italy.
