Check out this short feature on James Owen’s latest book, which he also illustrated and did the cover art for. I’ve reproduced some of his sketches for the cover, which reveal how he layers in detail.

That’s a truly gorgeous cover, and the book sounds fantastic and I want to read it–but it bums me out because there’s a ship called the Red Dragon (and it’s dragon prowed) in the novel I’ve been working on for the last while. wah.

You can out-dragon and out-red anybody. I don’t know what that means, but I think it means you shouldn’t worry about it.

    Heh. Thanks, Jeff.

JessicaL: Red Dragons are like my Grand Caravan – they’re multipurpose, and if I see another on the road, it doesn’t mean mine is obsolete, or that their is any less cool. Finish the book so we can all see your RD!

Jeff: I’m grateful and humbled about what you wrote. Praise from a good reviewer is nice; praise from a peer is gold. Thank you.

Wisely said, James. And your Red Dragon is a fierce beauty.
