Richard Morgan Wins the Clarke Award

Congrats to Richard Morgan who, as reported by Eve’s Alexandria, has won the Arthur C. Clarke Award. Really, I thought Black Man was a great book. My short down-and-dirty breaking news feature on Amazon here.

    Yeah, I am really delighted with this too, been telling people since before his debut Altered Carbon came out that they should be reading this. One of the few writers who can do ‘intelligent violence’, give us the guilty thrill of action scenes but use them to comment on morality and society at the same time. And he’s a very nice bloke to share a pint with. Looking forward to seeing what he does to the fantasy genre this summer.

    Yeah–I agree on all counts. Some reviewers think just because he uses violence and sex he’s somehow not writing high-level stuff, but he is. He’s adroit at using violence and sex in interesting ways.
