Some Santa Sangre for Yer Easter

Santa Sangre is crazy. Clips cannot convey the insanity of this movie. In fact, clips may make parts of it look retarded. But it’s insanely good in a lot of ways. Anyway, for your Easter enjoyment–something that’s crazier than the resurrection. (Not fond of the soundtrack these Youtubers chose for this, btw–and if you’re easily freaked out, don’t watch.)

I think you added that last bit as an enticement to get me to watch the video! It was…freaky, no doubt about that.

Eddie Izzard looks great as the kid’s leery eyed father. He’s so versatile.

I heard rumors that Jodorowsky is currently some sort of cult leader in rural Spain, so the Nazarene comparisons are certainly in order. If you haven’t seen The Holy Mountain I’d strongly suggest it for one scene alone, wherein the meeting of Conquistadors and Aztecs is played out in miniture…horned frogs in tiny headresses atop paper-mache ziggurauts as toads wearing tin helmets literally roll up on wheeled boats. Obviously, the film is an epic tale of love and loss.

That’s weird… I had to stop watching when they started killing that woman…

One of my college Spanish Lit. professors turned me on to this wacky film in the ealy 90’s and it was love at first viewing. Good soundtrack, too - definitely compliments the movie. Happy to see there are a few more freaks out there with, um, interesting taste… I recommend Erendira, also, if you’ve never seen it, but if you found Santa Sangre, well, dot dot dot
