Books Received: March 21

Jeff VanderMeer • March 21st, 2008 @ 2:40 pm • Book Reviews

A small but distinguished stack today, including the unusual graphic novel Three Shadows, the latest from Alex Robinson, whose Box Office Poison I loved, and a Brust novel and Card antho. Okay, so Dark Star I bought myself because I remember reading it with such nostalgia.

This is probably it for me for the weekend, folks, unless something big comes up. My brain is toast and I need a proper weekend. Which means no internet for me tomorrow.

Just a note on Jeff’s behalf–the site switched servers over the weekend and comments were locked. You can now comment at will, as everything has been switched over.

I was beginning to wonder how long that “Account suspended” page would be up this morning. Good to see things have been fixed.

  3. Luís Rodrigues says:

Actually, that only occurred after the move because the new hosts were unable to contact me to verify the account. So much for a smooth transition . . .

  4. Larry says:

Well, a couple of hours of down time is still relatively smooth, considering the situation. It’s not like any of us live here…or so I hope!

  5. Nadine says:

Aha! I’d wondered about that. I’m glad to see Jeff doesn’t really despise us all and we’re free to derail topics to our hearts’ content.

  6. Larry says:

Well, I suppose he could have been freaked out by that long discussion thread where clockwork rabid vampiric shapeshifting squirrels of doom were discussed. Then again, maybe it’s not so wise to mention those now?

  7. Nadine says:

~shifty~ Shhhh! You’ll trigger the memory; the Coalition finally managed to get it suppressed, but the technology is still in its infancy and direct mention of the buried topic may bring it right back to the fore.

And then the rodents will be highly displeased.

  8. Larry says:

Indeed, and since they seem to be everywhere these days, it is best to remain silent and to be in abject fear, no?

  9. Nadine says:

Indeed so, my friend; indeed so.

(Although… I will trust you with this. It is highly sensitive information, and I do not lightly impart it to you, but I feel that I have found in you a kindred spirit, one whose aims are similar to my own. There is an Underground, a small but dedicated band of people who, resenting and opposing the rise of the Rodent Regime, are beginning to organise around the cause of halting their burgeoning tyranny before it can dig its adorable little teeth into our collective jugular. Look for the sign of the Cat. You’ll know it when you see it.)

  10. Highly Anonymous says:

That wouldn’t be th, the one that looks like a… Cat? Would it?

  11. Nadine says:

SHHH! Gawd, do you want the whole *world* to know?
