Jay Lake has a wonderful post with photos and video of the recent space shuttle launch.

“This was America at her dreaming best, kind to visitors and gentle to her own children.”

“The cloud deck above bloomed like the eye of God opening in surprise.”

“The launch noise is the shout of Big Science, our challenge cried to the stars. Watching the shuttle go up was beautiful to the verge of heartbreaking. Hearing it go up was being caught in the echoes of our times.”

Why the hell aren’t I reading Jay Lake? Anybody want to recommend something by him?

I really like Trial of Flowers. I also liked Mainspring, but like Escapement, a loose sequel, even better.

His Dark Town stories, for me personally, are the bomb.
