Arthur C. Clarke Award Finalists

Yep, they’ve been announced, as I reported on Amazon today.
I have no personal complaints with the list–it seems like a nice mix. At the same time, it seems to be saying, “Hey–Americans and most genre SF generally: pick up your game!” Which is a good message, as far as I’m concerned.
The glaring omission, as far as I’m concerned, is The Stone Gods by Jeanette Winterson, which I thought was really excellent. If it overreached a little bit, well, what’s wrong with being ambitious?

Interested in a few of those titles, especially The Raw Shark Texts. Pre-ordered the Winterson, since I have no prior working relationship with Harcourt. Looking forward to seeing who wins the Clarke Award, as I usually order the winners, if not the finalists as well, for the major genre awards.
