I'll sign up as customer number two when this book is published. Honestly, I like "Mengele" as a name for a reprehensible bastard. It is....fitting.

Actually, it wasn't. He's a friend of a friend. Another novel that did come through the critique service will eventually be going to my agent for his consideration, though. Obviously, a side benefit of the critique service is if I think something is publishable, I'll help out in any way I can.

Excellent. Based upon that excerpt, Jesse Bullington has a guaranteed customer when this book is bound in paper and glue.

On another note; was his book submitted to you as part of your critiquing services?

There's a time and place for self-publishing: your first book if you've got something that isn't commercial and/or doesn't fit in a particular marketing niche (i.e., there's a greater chance it's a good book that can't find a champion than just a crappy book you should put aside) and anything non-commercial or niche after you're established, if you like producing books.

The tone reminds me a little of Kim Newman's 'Drachenfel's', and a some of the other Warhammer fantasy novels. I really like the Western influence on a fantasy setting. It makes a lot of sense having the characters adopt that kind of parlance and attitude. Interesting.

And I read lots of e-books, but haven't and will never self-publish one. Granted I don't read self-published e-books, so wouldn't ever recommend someone self publish their work.
