A Bad Line for a Monday

Here’s a bad line of dialogue in something published. Even worse in the context.
“Do you ever dream of blood?…Busted red oceans of sweet black blood.”
Evil Monkey is howling.

My favourite bad line (from memory):
He had the feeling that this was only the bread of this horror sandwich; the meat was still to come.
Genius!
Shelf Monkey (on occasion a writer of fairly bad prose himself) howls in sympathy

Red or black: pick a colour, we’re at war!

Guess the context!
I say you got it in a fortune cookie. Am I right?

Sounds like some kind of charnel checkers game.

I like the fortune cookie guess, but something tells me this was heard on Fox News.

Nope, it’s from a novel.

Yeah, but that brings up an interesting questions… why _don’t_ they print menacing or threatening messages in fortune cookies? Just to mix things up, every once in a while. Everything from “A very close friend is secretly plotting to betray you.” to “You will gain five pounds in the next two weeks,” I think we could all use a little variety.
