Evan Dando

Just a thumbnail review of the last solo CD from Evan Dando. The video above is actually one of the lesser songs from the CD, but still indicative of the overall quality. I’m very much impressed. The quality is great, and there’s a kind of hidden depth to the work. A lush yet restrained quality to the production. I almost feel like I’m listening to an Aimee Mann CD. Really great stuff. Infectious and rewarding repeated listening. Thanks to Matt Staggs for turning me on to it.
Now, with my beloved Gators losing to Auburn, it’s a good time to go smoke a cigar…

I’ve never bothered to look to see if there were any videos associated with that album - that’s pretty great!

We recently saw Dando supporting Jesus & Mary Chain. He played a few old Lemonheads songs but his new stuff was good enough that my wife bought the album. A bit too mellow for me though, I got the Eagles of Death Metal instead.

Is the Eagles of Death Metal album any good? I keep hearing all about it, but haven’t picked it up.
If you’re into heavy stuff, the last Mastadon album, “Blood Mountain” rules.

Oh, and Jeff, I wasn’t sure if you still smoked cigars. What is your favorite? I’m partial to La Gloria Cubana and Partagas Red when I can get them. Do you guys have a good cigar shop down that way?

We have a place called Jerry’s that’s good. I like a good Partagas or a Punch or an Onyx. Some other brands too, but I’m drawing a blank at the moment.

Onyx is pretty nice. It’s funny with cigars that higher price doesn’t necessarily equate with greater taste. There are several cigars that I enjoy that float under $6.00 a pop. I’ve had some really expensive ones that didn’t do a damn thing for me.
