Massive Book Sale Next Week

(No, most of the stuff in this photo isn’t for sale–but doesn’t it look luscious?)
We will be running a massive, and I do mean massive, book sale next week. Everything from hardcover fiction and nonfiction to coffee table books, comics, graphic novels, and oddities. First editions. Rare editions. A few duplicates of stuff we wouldn’t otherwise part with. I’ll also be offering a lot of unique stuff of my own, like the Finnish King Squid. Hundreds if not thousands of items.
Why are we doing this? The house is too small, for one. We are also streamlining as part of the transition to my freelancing this year, and part of that is getting rid of unnecessary things and clutter.
Anyway, I mention it because we do have a list of people who have asked for first dibs on stuff, before we post it to the site. If you want to be added to that list and get a chance to pick out some stuff before the books post is public on this site and all heck breaks loose, let me know. vanderworld at hotmail.com
As a tantalizing glimpse of stuff we’ll be selling and, er, not selling…some photos after the cut…including a look at my complete collection of the Dedelus imprint of Decadent and Decadent-related books.

I am happy to see that you have Lindsay’s Voyage to Arcturus and some Meyrink.
How have I never heard of Memoirs of a Gnostic Dwarf? Is it good? I have a feeling I should track it down immediately.
Have you ever read Eric Basso’s The Beak Doctor? David Ohle’s Motorman?

Pretty pretty pictures…
Yay for book pr0n!

I have the Gnostic Dwarf. It’s OK. A rather rambling tale that is slightly too pleased with itself. But no doubt the author also reads this journal and will set me right. Amazon customers think it’s the bee’s knees.

I love looking through other people’s book collections. There was a flickr group a while back composed of nothing more than pictures of stacks of books. You get a real sense of who people really are when you take a moment to look at what they feed their brains.
Really interesting - can’t wait for the sale.

Yeah–I agree about Gnostic. It’s okay, but not as good as one would hope.
The Beak Doctor?!

Did anyone spot the slim little Ligotti rarity?

Ooh - I see a Ketchum hardcover. I’m interviewing him this week.
September 6, 2007 at 10:15 am
Sorry, Matt. All the Ketchum books are mine and they won’t be for sale……

Don’t worry - I probably couldn’t afford it anyway!

Too bad you guys don’t live any closer, my wife and I have donated probably several hundred books on various topics (and of various quality) in the last few months to the local library in advance of our (pleasegodmakeitso) eventual move out of the great state of ‘Sippy. Had I known that you were going to have a book sale, I suppose we could have met you halfway twixt here and Fla. and given them to you.

I saw Kathy Koja in there…never read Skin, but Bad Brains and Cypher were pretty damn good. I would LOVE to get hold of those hardcover Clive Barkers! The Books of the Art have got to be my all time favorites of his work, and I’ve been looking for some good hardcover editions.

Well, still not sure what will be on the chopping block and what won’t be. These are general pictures of part of our last library. I believe we’re on target to post the book list on the blog by Tuesday.

These are the kinds of bookshelves that make me want to be there and browse. I’ll be watching for the list - even if I don’t buy any, they’ll undoubtedly serve as reading lists for a while.
PS. City of Saints and Madmen has me entranced.

Whoa man, I some some Whittemore in there!
These pics are a perfect example of one of the things we love about books. There’s just nothing quite like the excitement of looking at someone else’s bookshelves. Can’t wait to get my grips on some of those! :D

Yay for……books I designed! Ha.
Yes, browsing the other people’s shelves is always a treat. Nice lettering on the spine of Nile Shadows, looks like a variant of Farquharson that’s never been digitised.

Yes, John–rest assured, they can take our cats before they take our Savoy Books. Our gun is stashed behind those tomes.

Not to send you crawling back into the shelves, but who is in that issue of TriQuarterly?
